Submission Callout: The Wasteland Exhibition

February 11 - March 5

The Concordia Photography Collective invites you to submit to our annual exhibition around the theme: The Waste Land. "For you know only A heap of broken images" -T.S. Eliot The title stems from the T .S. Eliot’s 434-line poem that was originally double in size and was reduced over time and editing, eliminating the excess. This exhibition is interested in photographic material that informs a practice or is created as a by-product of the process. Your submissions may take the form of commenting on the poem itself, interpreting themes of land, place, waste, and excess through a photographic image, or conceptualizing photographic materiality, material and waste in a variety of artistic mediums (sculptures, installations, painting, ceramics etc). This theme opens us to unrestricted capabilities of material deconstruction and the infinite complexities of visual poetics. All Concordia Undergraduate students considering the photographic medium in some way in their practice. TO SUBMIT: -Send us up to 5 .jpeg images -A short artist bio & -A 100-250 words project statement to concordiaphotography@gmail.com by MARCH 5th The exhibition will take place in late April / Early May at a location TBD. February 13 - March 10

The Concordia Photography Collective invites you to submit individual images or series to the fifth edition of our annual publication "Darkslide". This year, the book carries a theme: Dust. At its core, Dust is, for all of us who work in photography, a perpetual source of frustration. Each of us is engaged in an ongoing struggle with those particles trapped between the analogue and digital realms which we all inhabit. Dust within the context of "Darkslide" is concerned with the psychological intent, concrete result, and the final resolution of the photographic process. Dust is about residue: about what we leave behind and what we are made of. It denotes a cycle of creation and destruction. The inevitable result of a process through which all things must pass. Dust comprises our world entirely, infinite and seemingly indistinguishable at a glance, much like photography in our era. We are bombarded day and night with images of the extraordinary, the bizarre, the shocking, and the everyday, the power of the individual image lost in the storm. But the right grain of sand traveling at high speed can, as these images we produce, cut through the din. TO SUBMIT: Email your photographs and a…

Le Projet FEAT Management in collaboration with The Concordia Photo Collective is proud to present “On a Scale of 1 to 10”. “On a Scale of 1 to 10” is a photography exhibit exploring this systemic and vernacular concept used for rating things, people, places, emotions and ideas. We are constantly confronted in providing a relatable worth to what we encounter or do in our lives. We are interested in revealing the different values and processes that make up this scale while questioning the implications and consequences of adopting such a socially implied abstract system of measurement. Through photography, we wish to portray an array of interpretations highlighting various ideas that lie behind a scale of 1 to 10.
